This newsletter post is part of my 45 days series. Everyday for the next 45 days I will send an email to you. Helping you transform your work environment, get you more visible and promoted asap!

Companies review quarterly. Careers get reviewed never. Fix it in 20 minutes.

Consider the machinery a business points at itself: weekly numbers, monthly reviews, quarterly boards. Constant structured attention, because everyone in business knows unmeasured things drift.

Now consider the machinery you point at your own career: a panicked LinkedIn scroll after a bad Tuesday, and one existential conversation on holiday each summer. Your career will earn you more over a lifetime than almost any asset you'll ever hold, and it gets less structured review than your fridge.

The fix is a standing 20 minutes, weekly, and I teach it as the career board meeting. Sunday evening works; any anchored slot works (the anchoring is what keeps it alive; day 36 covers why). Three questions, answered in writing, because thinking-about is not answering.

Question one: did I move this month?

Evidence, not feelings. A new number in the evidence file (day 2). A decider-map relationship advanced (day 16). Intent declared (day 14). Exposure gained (day 3). The question exists to catch the most common career failure early: busy is not moving, and some of the busiest years of a career move it nowhere. Three consecutive thin months means the strategy has stalled, and you've caught it in month three instead of year three, which is the entire return on the meeting.

Question two: what moved around me?

New boss incoming. A peer promoted. Budget noises. A restructure rumour with unusually good sourcing. A key sponsor looking at the exits. The chessboard shifts weekly, and most people study it only when it's their turn to lose a piece. Five deliberate minutes a week keeps you playing early, and early is where the good options are: the role shaped before it's advertised, the project joined before it's fashionable, the sponsor backed before everyone sees what they're building.

Question three: what's the one move this week?

One. A message, a booking, a sentence, a broadcast. The entire meeting exists to produce this line, and the line must be small enough to certainly happen. Grand plans die of their own weight; the weekly move compounds. This is where the series' protocols get scheduled: this week the verdict question (day 9), next week the band question (day 12), the week after a witness-list touch (day 10).

Why this compounds

Arithmetic. Fifty-two deliberate moves a year against the four or five most people manage. Same talent, same hours worked, radically different trajectory, twenty minutes at a time. And the review's early-warning function (question one) means your corrections happen in weeks, not years, which over a decade is most of the visible difference between careers that compound and careers that drift.

Your assignment

Recurring 20 minutes in the diary for this Sunday, titled something you won't delete. Sit the first one. Three questions, in writing, one move chosen.
